Game reviews Change in Site Procedure

In a strange turn of events Ubisoft announced on their blog today that

The Crew will be available to media to begin their reviews when the game launches on December 2. There will be absolutely no embargo on any type of coverage once the game is available for sale

A lot of media places normally receive their games for review generally at least 3-4 days PRIOR to release, this enables the reviewer to get a grasp of the game and then issue a review again before the game is released. There are lots of companies that receive these games such as IGN, Eurogamer, GameSpot, VG247 and even to some extent myself.

You may have noticed on the site that we have recently not reviewed any titles at all, this is down mainly to a number of personal problems and the games that I would have liked to review such as Assassins Creed Unity having launched with so many problems that either I give it a true review based on how the game is released or wait. I have had to decide how I want to do my reviews going forward.

I have always done my reviews based on my honest opinion of a game, it is based on my thoughts and my experience. This in the past has opened me up to people questioning if I’ve been paid to write a review or offered gifts. I am proud to say that I have never received any incentive to write favourably about a title.

So in terms of reviews the following procedures :-

  • ALL site reviews will detail if the game/hardware was purchased for personal use OR if the game/hardware has been sent for the sole purpose of review. This will be done so at the end of the review.

  • ALL site reviews will include game version (i.e 1.01 & PS4 Firmware version) this will be listed prior to review. This is done so that you will know what version of the game has been played.

  • ALL site reviews will make note of any bugs/glitches that have occurred in the release played as detailed above and they if occurred they WILL have a negative effect on the review.

With this in mind going forward I will be reviewing LittleBigPlanet 3, Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare over the coming days.
